The Garden To Disappear In
Breda Photo x Pride Photo - Talent Program
1-30 November, Clublokaal, Breda, 2025

As a follow-up to Mit Euren Spuren’, five photography students from the KABK (The Hague) and Sint Joost (Breda) have recorded the lives of queer Bredanaren at the initiative of BredaPhoto & Pride Photo.

In THE GARDEN TO DISAPPEAR IN, I reimagined Maria’s childhood through a blend of memory and invention. Maria appears as a figure both obscured and luminous, existing between anonymity and transcendence, and reflecting the fluid nature of identity and self-expression.

The work combines newly produced photographs with collages made from archival images of Maria, resulting in a fragmented portrait that navigates the space between what is remembered and what is reinvented. The garden becomes a central, symbolic site, a place where you can escape to. A place free from constraints, where identity is not fixed, but allowed to grow, change, and remain in constant bloom.
